First Draft of Mountain Man 7…. Completed!

A while back on Facebook… I asked if anyone would be interested in MM7?

And folks said, yes. To which I said, I had half a book in my head, but I didn’t know what happens in the other half?

Well, one day while working on the follow up to White Sands, Red Steel, I figured I’d start dabbling in that story, in the evening. To see what would happen when I reached the halfway mark. Turns out, I didn’t need to worry so much about the second half at all. The story pretty much wrote itself as the characters did the scribbling for me. Weird how it went, but that’s what happened.

And as a result, the long overdue follow-up to White Sands, Red Steel, took more and more of a backseat to the “evening project” until, well, the first draft of MM7 was finished.

Now, I’m not sure when it’ll be on the market. Not even sure of a title even… but… it’s done.

And in the days and weeks to come, I’ll be working on edits for both stories.

The next 131 Days  book will follow after that (which is to say I’ll start writing it), probably in the New Year. I want to get back to that series and finish it, asap.

Figured I’d let you all know.

Will MM7 be the last story you read about Gus… ?

We’ll see…

  1. This is exciting news! I need more Gus in my life. He reminds me of a dear friend who passed away some time ago (a little bit gruff and a big ole teddy bear). Thanks and keep up the excellent work!

  2. Oh, thank the high seas! Just finished listening to Book 6 and felt lost without another MM book to roll into… Can’t wait to dive in whenever it comes!

Several times over the past 6 books I had to stop, take a breath, and think, “Why does Keith C. Blackmore hate Gus so much?” So, definitely looking forward to hopefully reading that Gus catches a break in 7. Give the man some 3-ply and a few weeks to stare at the stars with his buddy Scott. 🥃

  3. I love this series so much and happy to hear about 7. I have no clue why I enjoy this genre so much. You’ve become a favorite author and Gus is pretty amazing. Thank you.

  4. This is great news. My hubby and I have been waiting for what seems like forever for MM7! Good luck with the title and publishing.

    1. He’s is all that, but yes, I expect him to narrate. Ninety-nine percent sure. But too early to comment on when it might be released on audio.

  5. YES!! I am looking forward to every single one! I’ve listened to Mindless at least 5 times and every time the end puts a lump in my throat and more than a few tears in my eyes, my missus even caught me crying 😂🤣 I am more excited for 131 days as I’ve listened to all of them at least 8 times and can’t wait to find out what becomes of Halm and the boys. All written by a true master.

  6. horray!! i was worried i was going to miss Gus so much but now light is on the horizon and i can hope to read about how everything turned out for him.

  7. 2023 could be a very good year for us Keith C fans. MM7, a followup to White Sands and, best of all, the next one in 131 Days. Get to it Mr B and no slacking!

  8. As a zombie genre fan, I’ve really enjoyed the MM series. In the middle of 6 and I already know I look forward to 7. Nice to hear RCB will be back. He does a great job. Good luck on the option, I hope they make the movie or series. Many of my friend would definitely watch it with me. Thanks for the stories and please help them coming.

  9. I’m excited, I’ve gone through all the books an embarrassing amount of times. I think I connect with Scott the most but I’m a rum man myself too. Cheers, Gus. The operators earlier story interests me. Your tone feels spot on for the story and vibes. Keep up the fantastic work, standing by for any updates or early snippets to be released.

    1. HAHA I think what we need rather than a MM TV show or movie is a MM open world survival game with Gus (RB Bray) narrating the whole time. I’d love to explore Annapolis as our lovable rum drinking Zombie Slayer. Visit the house on the mountain, the LCBO, and Canadian Tire lol.

  10. Oh my sweet jumping Jesus & pullin on a chub!
I’ve been chasing my tail & sniffing every which corner soul searching for my old buddy’s Agusto, Scotty & Tammy LOL and that crazy rat ass dog toung fella! Thank you so much Keith! You’re my hero I fell in love with every character in every book of MM !!!

  11. I see so much of myself in Gus. Its rare for me to relate so heavily to a protagonist.
The Mountain Man is by far my favorite series on Audible. Im literally on my 5th listen.

  12. Fantastic news. Really enjoy your work but MM is the series has just that bit extra.
Your frequent use of “ordinary people” in extraordinary times in MM is a fantastic relief from other dystopian stories obsessed with using invulnerable superhero’s. Being in Australia your descriptions of Canada (even in a Zombiecide) keep calling to me to visit. But that may be just the novelty of your climate for me.
Please keep doing what your doing it’s bloody awesome.
    Ben

    1. I live in Canada and love the little references here and there. It’s a beautiful country (slowly being mismanaged into oblivion but what country isn’t) lol come visit some day. There’s a lot of nature and a lot of history. and barely and scorpions or poisonous snakes. 🙂

  13. I hated zombie movies and was reluctant to listen to this series. By the end of the 6th book I was actually crying when Colly died. I absolutely love the 131 days series. You have the best narrator’s in the business and I just love all of your books. Just about to start the beasts series even though I am not really into werewolves I think I will love it. Keep them coming mate.

  14. Love the MM series! My favorite series on Audible. I listen on my lunch hour at work and Gus had gotten me through alot of bad days! Keep them coming Keith!

  15. I just went through the entire series in about a month and anxiously awaiting to hear more about Guy and hoping that he will find his own “Collie” someday – please hurry with #7

    1. so true, Rick Grimes had my heart for many years but Gus gives him a great run for his money, he’s a great character!

  16. This just made my day! The MM series is my comfort listen and I’ve been dying to know what happens after book 6 (I still cry at the ending of that one). I hope 7 isn’t Gus’ last adventure, but I’m sure excited to see what he gets up to next. Thank you for continuing the series!

  17. Love this series I do think it’s the best zombie apocalypse story ever told and you should make it in to a tv show or film can’t wait for the next book thank you for the amazing world you have created

  18. I was pleasantly surprised and almost annoyed when I saw that Book 7 was on Audible, thinking I had missed its release. Now to renew my Audible subscription and wait for the book to drop. I generally put the series on and listen once every couple years, now that its not 3 books anymore its starting to become quite the endeavor but Gus is such a great character. I’m hoping we see something like Book 1 but in a skyscraper I loved all the books but the day to day Gus scavenging houses and exploring without the threat of a maniacal murderous gang is my favorite setting for Gus. I really liked the mansion in book 4. I’m glad to see the story continuing and no matter where Gus goes and ends up doing, I’m along for the ride. Thanks Keith!!! Time to load up book one and get ready for a long listen so I’ll be ready for 7 when it drops! (*excited YES!!!! with fist pumps*)

    1. “I’m hoping we see something like Book 1 but in a skyscraper” …. (stares at comment for seconds before little smile appears). I’m glad you like the mansion. I liked that bit too. That was supposed to be a novella but the reader in me was like “Nahhh tack it on the beginning there”. And my editor said it reminded him of the mini-missions you would see on the start of a James Bond movie. So… yeah. It worked. Glad you liked it, too. 🙂

  19. I cannot Thank you enough for your creative writing! I will need to tell a bit (well actually a lot, because you just can’t boil my situation down to a couple of sentences without totally undermining the severity and impact my health, or lack of, has on my existence [+ those around me] and my choice of reading material! *gasp IK, IK, I am NOT a very good writer and have been told “Umm.. you have a very… err… unique style.”: an extremely charitable way of saying “WTF are you doing!?” ) about myself.
I have been homebound due to chronic illnesses for the last 25 years PLUS I was cursed/blessed with MANY symptoms (& severity of said symptoms) of ADHD. One of which causes me migraine headaches, unless actively engaged in something I find interesting (no joke) … which is the truly difficult part, because I can’t just pick up any old book and be distracted enough to relieve my headache and associated anxiety! Even my family members don’t quite understand what I have to deal with everyday, they assume I am just extremely fussy or my standards are way too high! lol Well this is where your fantastic writing arrives and helps me survive another day my sanity intact… or as intact as it ever was!
Over my *ahem… many years of life, I have read and watched so much that I can usually map out the plot after a couple of pages/chapters/minutes, pinpoint the seemingly innocuous plot devices that will be important to the story progression & resolution. It is so difficult to find ANYTHING anymore that I am surprised by! I have pretty much given up on television long ago. Movies I have either seen before or don’t care to see at all. There are
a ton of new Books available, every week. Unfortunately they are mostly written by some newcomer who in exchange for getting to see their writing in print, only have to add the name JAMES PATTERSON™️ in a large font over their own (in a tiny font). Every week we are treated to another (*cough) original (*huge coughing fit) JAMES PATTERSON™️ & [*insert starving college student’s name here ^tiny font^] Book/Thingy! Sorry, I digress!
Your terrific TROLL HUNTER and WHITE SANDS, RED STEEL are two of my all time favorite books, I was surprised at almost every turn! I wish I was able to accurately express just how much your hard work means to this particular sicko! Fortunately YOU are the one equipped
with a brilliant imagination… so go ahead and picture it, I’ll be waiting over here eating a 🍓strawberry shortcake ice-cream bar. Mmmm crumbs everywhere- huh!? Wow! OMG Yesss, that’s IT! That’s exactly what it means to me! lol oh cool, yeah that part too! 😉
Thank you for putting up with my babbling and thank you for your beautiful work

    1. Sorry to hear about the chronic illness, Jo Anne, but glad to hear that the stories worked for you. The writing in those are kinda rough to me now, but the style is improving/evolving. Thanks again for your note and have a good week 🙂

  20. LOVED Book 7 and the introduction to Maya. I am patiently waiting for Book 8 and the continuation of the story of Gus and Maya! HURRY! PLEASE!

  21. MM7 was done up with a pretty little ribbon on top – thoroughly enjoyed it. There is one character, from the prequel, I wondered their fate and seems I will continue to do so, but that is the power of the writing; leaving bits to the imagination.
