131 Days update….
Book 6 (untitled thus far) has been delivered to the publishers (Podium Entertainment).
Roughly 135K of arena mayhem, inter-house intrigue (Or I at least I hope it’s intriguing), and pursuits of vengeance.
No idea on a release date at this point but when I know, you’ll know. What’s next? A little break I think, maybe a week… to catch up on some non-work things left on the back burner. After that, 131 book 7….
As it looks right now… there are story threads enough to keep this thing going for 2 to 3 more books… there *is* potential to keep it going beyond that, but only if I can’t resolve what I have planned in the mentioned time. I had a few things laid out for book 6 but I couldn’t fit everything in there ….Anyway, let’s just hope that book 6 sells, and sells well enough for book 7 and beyond :).

This book was an absolute blast….I was looking for something long for work on Audible and listened to most of the Mountain Man series, found 131 Days and had a great time listening, then reading it. Currently finishing Savage book 2 and sad that I’m at 70% of the book without a book 3 to dive into. Hopefully book 6 of 131 Days doesn’t get trapped at the publishers too long, I’m dying to find out what’s next for the boys! Keep up the great reads Keith!
🙂 I only hope this one sells and sells well enough that I can steam through the remaining books…. re: Savage…. yeah, you’re probably finished it by now. Anyway, the book flopped with sales. I might try a book 3 later but (shrugs) I’ve said it before… hard to work on a book for 4-6 months, release it, and watch it drop. Not saying I won’t do a 3rd book, just that the sales from other books now will be paying the bills until I can take another chance on doing it….. But glad you liked the books 🙂
Great series. Can’t wait.
I CAN’T WAIT!!! This has been one of my favorite series.
The best book I’ve ever read in my entire life. I pray it sells and sell for 10 more books to follow🤣.. I wish I had millions of followers on a social platform I could recommend to buy…. I’ve read all 5books 3 times over. I absolutely can’t wait to see what happens next..I’ve been praying for a continuation and my prayers have been answered. Thank you for being awesome Keith. keep em coming..if I could I’d rebuy 10 times to add to the sales🤣
cant wait! love this series
Having just finished To Thunderous Applause, I was worried, considering the long break between books.
Phew! So relieved to read this!
Book 6 nears completion in the latest round of copyediting, and I’m closing in on 95K words with book 7…. only hope book 6 lifts the series a little more.
Been eagerly awaiting more of this series, very glad to hear there is more coming 🤘 I’m an audio book guy these days (kids, baking etc) so fingers crossed for John Lee to keep narrating. Love your books Keith.
Thanks Chris… audio does seem to be my best selling format nowadays, mostly because of the narrators. The print and ebook formats have been left behind in the dust….
Is it possible for a book like Savage to get more popular later? Or does the way publishing work mean is has to be successful in sales right from the start?
I had listened to all 131 days a few years ago, but dident know White Sands, Red Steel was in the same world.
Then last week I saw Savage on Audible, and saw it had great ratings, then of course had to listen to the first book before buying Savage.
I am about 2 hours from finishing White Sands, and have already purchased Savage. I’m sorry to hear it was not a good seller, but hopefully over time people will find it the way I did!
It is possible. Several things could happen. For example, 131 Days could take off with book 6 and that might push people towards White Sands, Red Steel, and if they like that, they could pick up Savage. Also, I could write a third He-Dog book, release it, and that might do well enough to crack the top 100 of its genre, where it will get more eyes on not only the third book, but the first two books as well, thus lifting the series from the murky depths.
However, it’s hard to work on the next book in a series when sales aren’t there, which is where “the He-Dog Chronicles” is right now. Conventional wisdom says if a series isn’t selling, to pack it in and move on to something else.
I could write a third book, and chance the 5-6 months or so until it gets to market, but it’s a gamble. And I’m gambling now with book 6 and 7 of 131 Days.
“Savage” does have, if I may say so, excellent reviews from the audience that received it. No question. I hope you like it when you get to it….
And ideally, yes, if a book sells well from the start, it makes it easier to produce a second book in a series, then a third and so on.
good evening Keith I know you think your taking a gamble on 131 days but you have my full support Ive listened to all of your work that’s available on audible and I have been desperately waiting for more 131 I pre-ordered savage and I loved it I will do the same for the next 3 131 day books such a brutal world honestly can’t put it down keep on hacking and slashing your a true inspiration in my view always happy to support your work and always will.
I’ve said this before but I only wish I had about a thousand (or ten thousand) more like you :). Thanks for the good words G…
Very excited to hear book 6 is on the way. Going to do my part to spread the word on this series to help get more traction! Thank you Keith!
Fantastic! Can’t wait! I am listening through the 131 days series now for the third time now. No change in narrator I hope?
As far as I know, no change in narrator…. but if there is… I’ll be posting about it 🙂
Hi Keith. Where can I buy Leeches?
Unfortunately, you can’t buy “Leeches”, sorry. That was a chapter taken out of the first 131 Days book as my editor thought(correctly) I was bringing in too many characters in the first book, so some had to be dropped. It was offered as a short story but then discontinued. I’m not sure but it *might* have been restored with either book 1 or book 2 (been so long now I forget). Clades is the main focus, where he is offered a chance to forgo returning to the front lines by Toffer, Rusk The Two-Knife’s second-in-commmand in “The Troll Hunter”.
I found 131 days this year after waiting for another mountain man book. I didn’t think I’d find a series I liked more than MM, but I’ve found it in 131 days. I’ll be buying every one on release now.
Just saying this to let you know that new readers are still coming for this series 🙂
Thank you Brad, very much appreciated (as are all these comments).
Book 6 is undergoing some final touches now and then it depends on John Lee, but I hope to have pre-orders up for it soon. Plus, I finished the first draft of book 7, which I’ll be tinkering with in the months to come. I’ll be watching sales for book 6 very closely, in hopes that I can start work on… 😉 book 8…. and beyond….
Book 7? Sweet! I was just going to re-read the entire series and decided to check your blog to see if there was any news about what you’re working on next. I think the only thing of yours I haven’t read is the Cauldron Gristle stuff (yet). Can’t wait to see what happens with Junger, Brock, Goll and the gang. And if Halm’s fat ass gets tired of playing house-husband and takes up the steel again. Great world-building in this series and I look forward to whatever you write next.
The first draft of 131 Book 7 has been completed, but I switched up gears to work on Breeds 4, to complete that first draft and beyond (so I can send it off to the publisher) before I get to work on edits for 131:7. The reason being is Breeds 4 is a proven seller and 131 isn’t… not yet anyway. I’ve said it many times here and to anyone who will listen lol, I just need to find that vein in the heroic fantasy/grimdark crowd, and we’re off to the races. The other nugget I’ll leave you with… I’ve mentioned before that I think I could finish the series in 2 or 3 books. Nope. Not gonna happen. With the events in book 6 and 7, book 8 is already loosely outlined, as is book 9… with a possibility of book 10….
More Breeds! Love it! I hear you on putting your efforts into what sells. Best of luck to you.
