Food.
Booze.
Weapons and armor.
And any toilet paper he can find.
It’s been a rough time for Gus Berry. He barely survived the city of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved either dead or undead.
Things aren’t much better now, though. In fact, things might have become much worse. Living off the land, foraging for food, water, even medicine, and being able to adapt to a changing environment…it all takes a special individual, with an exceptional skill set and determination to survive.
Gus Berry is not that individual. He needs food. Booze. Weapons. Armor. He needs clothing that fits, and, above all…he needs toilet paper. Preferably two-ply. To get any of that requires him to do the one thing he can’t face doing, and that’s leaving his modern mountain fortress and returning to Annapolis, to the horrors that roam the streets, searching for the living.
To make matters worse, winter looms, and he must get those much-needed supplies before the snow piles high and blocks the roads. Gus’ only concern, then, will be maintaining his sanity.

Why is mountain man not a film already? They have all the material they need! Origin story, early survival, development into a hardened, brutal alcoholic and reintegration into a form of society, via the hard route. The only zombie apocalypse series I have ever stuck with from start to finish, to prequel to start!
Hollywood is, I’ve learned, a different business entirely. So many different working parts integral to the other, and if one should break down or leave, well, it delays everything. The material has been optioned but, going on 8 or 9 years now, I don’t think about it, purely because it distracts me from putting out more stories. If it happens, wonderful, but if not, the books will have to do. 🙂
This is true. Their loss! I’ve watched a LOT of zombie films and only 5% merit any mention. Hollywood does not often cater to many beyond those who are impressed by pretty colours and loud noises. Anything that requires an ounce of intelligence to comprehend generally gets slated or incorrectly represented.
We all appreciate you anyway, and the films you’ve created in our heads.
Love these books! One of my favorite series and I’m not even into the horror genre that much. I hope you continue to write more. I’m sure it gets tedious, but the books always turn out fantastic. I’m also pretty sure, as they grow in popularity, it adds more and more pressure to the process. Nonetheless, the books stand on their own, yet always leave much more to be explored – which is the hallmark of great writing. As mentioned, I seriously hope you keep this series going…it’s like indulging in a can of Pringles, man: once you pop, you just can’t stop!!
Hello, any news on the 131 Days series, or other books from that world? Thanks!
131 has been delayed due to some personal circumstances, but I hope to be back at it eventually. These days, when I am working, I’m working on the follow up to “White Sands, Red Steel” (same world, different continent), and when that story is done, I will return to the 131 series.
How many 131 books will there be? I still haven’t decided. At least 2 more, but possibly 3, depending on how sales go with book 6 and 7. My publisher would like to see longer stories so… we’ll see. I think I can finish it in 2 books, but it might be a little rushed. Anyway, we’ll see. Once upon a time I was hoping for a long series of about 9 or 10 books, but now I’ll be happy with finishing it sooner. lol
Having said all that, I’ve somehow managed to produce a few chapters of book 6, and I can tell you, as a teaser, that Gurga is not happy….
Thank you for the update. Can’t wait to read them all and Gurga unleashed will make a lot of dog blossoms pucker! (It’s too bad why he’s not happy, but Sunja’s a brutal world). Looking forward!
Any updates on when another book from the 131 Days universe will come out? I love those books! Thanks!
Highly enjoyed the mountain man series on audio book. I’m craving more! Would love to follow Gus’s adventures out west. Hopefully the series is not over 😁👍
